Your great-grandparents left Italy over a century ago. They boarded a ship at Naples or Palermo, crossed the Atlantic, and built a new life in America, Australia, or Argentina. They brought their language, their recipes, and their faith — but the paper trail of who they were stayed behind in Italian archives.
The good news? Millions of those records are now online, free to access, and waiting for you to find them. This guide covers the best Italian genealogy websites available today — from the official Italian national archives to international databases that hold the passenger lists, naturalisation papers, and church records that document your family’s story.
Whether you are just starting your Italian ancestry research or you have hit a wall with existing records, these websites will help you go further.
